Where To Start
Adult runners of a range of abilities, experience, background and age are welcome at West End Runners.
We emphasise a social atmosphere as well as competitive running.
If you are over 18 and can manage a 5 mile run - pop down on a Wednesday club for a chat or more usually, come ready to run.
You should check with your doctor first if you are new to exercise or have any medical condition, which might be affected by running.

Wednesday night is the main club night.
We meet on Wednesdays at 7:15 for 7:30pm running at Leicester Rowing Club . Junction of Upperton Road and Western Boulevard, Leicester.
Wednesday nights are structured to suit the needs of a diverse range of abilities and aspirations. Typically, the following choices might be available on Wednesdays:
- a beginners group at the start of the year, with possibly a second in the autumn (contact us about this),
- a running for fitness group (depending upon attendance), 40-60 minutes, 5 miles?, keeping together,
- a group running 10 minute mile pace for approx 4-5 miles,
- a 9.5 minutes per mile group doing approx 5 miles, sometimes quality,
- a 9 minute mile group, often a steady run of 5-7 miles, sometimes quality,
- an 8.5 minute mile group usually running about 6 miles and doing some quality in the summer,
- an 8 minute mile group usually running about 7 miles and doing quality some weeks all year,
- a 7.5 minute mile group often doing quality work with occasional steady runs,
- a sub 7 minute mile group, which often does quality work,
- from January until April, a long-distance group (8 miles+ for runners training for a Spring Marathon. This group usually starts running earlier than 7.45 p.m.)
These groups will vary according to particular circumstances on the night and the proximity of major races. Middle and fast groups may do hill, interval or speed repetitions, especially in the summer. At times we will be experimenting in each of the groups with an appropriate 6 week schedule working towards a specific race.
All new runners will be helped to get themselves into the right group. The Membership Secretary or other officers on the night should give new runners a short questionnaire so we know who is running. Visitors are welcome to try us for a few weeks before deciding whether to join. Membership Form
Showers, changing facilities and refreshments (including a bar) are available each Wednesday.
We meet every Wednesday of the year at the Rowing Club with the only exception possibly being the week between Christmas and New Year. Meeting time is usually 7:15, ready for running 7:30. On some Wednesdays running is at a different time due to other events. There may be less groups and running is at 7pm sharp. Examples are Wednesday before the London Marathon, June Open Meeting, October AGM. These should be listed on the events list on the website and in the news sheet.
