WEST END RUNNERS - RUNNER OF THE MONTH

The runner of the month club award was an idea brought to the club by Dave Sadler and Syd Dalton. The award started in 1996 using a new trophy donated by Syd. The award is made for the previous month by a club sub-committee active at the time based on nominations from club members. August	Mark Rawlinson	Completing the “Tour du Mont-Blanc”. trail race covering 3 countries, 163km , 9000m of ascent in 39 hours.
July	Brian Ashwell	Leicester Mercury quote: Super veteran Brian Ashwell smashed two British and one European age-bests at the British Masters Track and Field Championships at Birmingham's Alexander Stadium - and then said: "I think I can go faster". Just 10 days after celebrating his 75th birthday, the remarkable athlete from West End Runners lowered the British and European marks in the 1500 metres with a 5min 29.94sec clocking. The following day, Ashwell, who regularly runs 70 miles a week in training, showed no ill effects as he carved 17 seconds off the British M75 best for 10,000 metres by crossing the line in 41.30.32.

November	Yvonne Beckwith	Gosport Half Marathon. 1:29:47, position 144 in 984.

August	Ian Gladwell	Personal Best at Joy Cann 5 (29:01) after other excellent runs in previous months.
July	Paul Lefley	Hungarton 7, 4:16 better than last year. Example of all round improvement.
June	Glynn Smith	Glynn Smith - 1000m Long Course Mountaineers (in boots!). First M60, finishing in 7 hours 12 minutes.
May	Laura Davison	01:48:26 at the Gaddesby Half Marathon.
April	Yvonne Beckwith	PB at the Lochaber Marathon in a time of 3:21.
March	Phil Low	Wreake Valley Stomp. 57:54, a PB by 6 seconds. Perhaps having to swim part of it helped.

October	Paul Deeping	After a long injury, 44:12 at the Bestwood 10K
September	Laraine Porter	1^st Lady Vet 45, Leicester Half-Marathon, 1:34:10.
August	Clive Simpkins	Clive Simpkins, for his 6:48 mpm rate (beating his target time of 7 minute miling) in the Joy Cann 5 miles, finishing in 34:01.
July	Chris Seal	Hungarton 7, 44:22. West End Trophy and LRRL race.
June	Brian Ashwell	For (at 72) breaking the 11 year-old 5,000m record Midland record with 19:27. Then taking victory in the M70 800m race in 2:43:0, then completing the hat-trick of victories by taking the M70 1500m event with a new national age group time of 5:32.
May	Mark Rawlinson	Fellsman (63 mile fell race) in 19 hours 44 mins. 50th out of 219 people.
April	Ian Gladwell	London Marathon 3:06:06.
March	Liz Taylor	Performance at the Kibworth 6.
February	Chris Smith	PB time of 33:34 at the LRRL Desford 5.
January 2005	Dave Sadler	For gaining top points in the WER trophy with a time of 53.44 at the LRRL Markfield 10K.
December 2004	Shaun Wright	4th at Victoria Park 10K 35.16.
November	Paul Winterton	PB at the Leicester Half Marathon, finishing in 1:48 knocking 5 minutes off his time for the event last year.
October	Andrew Middleton & Glynn Smith	First in the Karimor International Mountain Marathon Class B Race. Finishing position 45^th in 257 (202 finishers) with a time of 10:54:06 and their ages etc. meant a handicap time of 08:32:23 (13min/hour) resulting in them being first in the Class B race.
September	Emma Parkin	PB at John Fraser 10 in 1.24.45 especially on such a hot day.
August	Ian Gladwell	In recognition of his Snowdon Race. Time: 1.28.08. 130th out of a total field of 413 when the winners time was 1.05.38.
July	Nigel Courtney	For his Langton 7.5 miles result, but also for his consistent significant improvement in race times all this year compared with several previous ones.
June	Andrew Middleton	Super-vet prize and performance at the Snowdon Summits Marathon race on June 5. Mountaineers long course 6.56.36, 7th out of 37 finishers (12 retired).
May	Muhammed Ashraf (Ash)	PB at Hinckley half - 1.53.39. This 8.40 minute / mile pace is a big improvement since he joined the club.

March	Shaun Wright	Achieving his target of under 1:20 at the Wilmslow Half Marathon (21.3.04). Official time of 1:19:59. Position 80^thin 3241 finishers, 73^rd male, 55^th under 40 male.
