LEICESTERSHIRE ROAD RUNNING LEAGUE - A GUIDE FOR RUNNERS & ORGANISERS

The LRRL Winter League Is Sponsored In 2007 by

MICK YEOMAN PHYSIOTHERAPY

The LRRL is open to all affiliated clubs in and around the county. The LRRL administers two separate leagues every year. A Winter League and a Summer League. Individual scores are for each league, team scores are combined for all races in the year. LRRL Constitution takes precedence over the information below.

OVERALL ORGANISATION

Each club is allowed two voting delegates who can attend meetings, of which around 4-8 occur every year. Meetings are usually held at the Ex-Servicemen’s Club, Groby, near Leicester. The LRRL AGM is in October/November with annual club membership (currently 10) being due from this date.

In September clubs write to the LRRL nominating their race for inclusion in the Winter or Summer League for the coming year. Clubs should accept any conditions listed in the LRRL constitution. Race permits are the responsibility of the organising club (not the LRRL) and should be obtained via the usual affiliated club route. Clubs may borrow LRRL equipment (banners etc. see LRRL annual accounts) if it is handed to the next organising club.

Each competitor is annually allocated a LRRL number. The number is obtained from the LRRL Results Secretary by club delegates at the beginning of the year. New numbers can be obtained early on the day for Winter Races or no later than 3 days before for Summer Races.

Trophies are awarded individually and for 3 teams. Men, Vet men and Women. First 8 men. First 4 vet men. First 4 women. If an individual runner does all Winter and Summer races a 100% award is given. Each Men’s league is divided into two divisions with promotion and relegation. In 2008 Men's leagues will be divided into 3 leagues. The chair of the LRRL nominates a charity each year to which the league donates 100.

RUNNERS TAKE NOTE

The national governing body rules of competition apply, except as amended by the LRRL constitution which addresses things like competing for second claim clubs, young runners etc. Talk with your club delegate if there is any doubt over which club you are running for.

Club vests should be worn for all races. Follow the instructions of Police, race officials and marshals before, during and after races. Personal stereo’s may be discouraged due to this. Unless instructed or there is reasonable cause:

UNLESS DIRECTED, GENERALLY RUN ON THE LEFT, NEVER CROSSING THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD.

Official action may be taken if instructions or the Highway Code are not followed.

WINTER LEAGUE RACES

Usually comprise 5 races, CLOSED to members of the clubs in the LRRL. Races usually start at 10:30 am on Sundays, January to March.

Individual runners are given a LRRL race number to wear for the races of the Winter League and pay an entry fee (2007, 2.50) to their club rep/captain for each race on the day. Club reps/captains pass entry fees to race organisers before races.

At the end of a race individuals are given a disc indicating position. Discs MUST be given to their club rep/captain immediately after the race. The club rep/captain completes a club result sheet and puts this into an envelope with the finishing position discs. Envelopes MUST be returned to the results desk after the race so results can be compiled as soon as possible.

Usually comprise 6 nominated OPEN races, usually May to September. Day & time vary.

Individuals put their LRRL number down on race entry forms (the number annually assigned and used for the Winter League) and wear the number given to them by the organising club for that race. NOT LRRL number.

Races are solely organised by the nominating club with LRRL results being collated by the LRRL Results Secretary from the overall race results. Organising clubs should include LRRL race number in results.
