West End Runners Beginners' Course

When? -
January - February each year for 6 weeks. 2008 course is being planned.
Depending upon interest, possibly an autumn course. Contact us to express an interest.

Who? -
Welcomes all who want to try/start running.

Chance of a place in the London Marathon or Great North Run and need guidance on training and company

Where and when? -
Come down to meet us at the Rowing Club on Upperton Road (by the canal). Arrive 7.15 - 7.30 p.m. to run from 7.45 p.m. For further information ring:

What? -
Experienced runners lead the beginners group. Coaches available for advice. Warm up session first. Runs will increase in distance over the 6 weeks with the aim of running 3 miles continuously within 30 minutes by the end. No charge for the beginners' group - showers available. Soft drinks and snacks available afterwards for a small charge. Also a bar.

Missed it? -
Don't worry if you miss a few of the six sessions. Past experience has been that ability range has been so wide that we will probably be able to accommodate you if you have some level of fitness. Alternatively, email the club via the contact page if you want to be informed of when the next course is to be put on. Another course may be organised if there is enough interest so email us. In 2006 or 2007 there was not enough interest to organise another course.

What?

A beginner’s group for everyone wanting to try/start running. The aim is to get from nought to 30 minutes continuous running in 6 weeks!

When and Where?

Wednesday evenings for 6 weeks from 9th January to 13th February. Meet at the Rowing Club on Upperton Road, Leicester. Turn left into the club just after the canal (not the newer youth building as this gets locked). Arrive around 7.15pm to start after club announcements from 7.30ish. How does it work?

Over 6 weeks the beginners group will run/walk gradually building up to 30 minutes continuous running. There will be a warm up first and you’ll be shown how to stretch afterwards.

Who?

A mixture of experienced and not so experienced runners will lead the groups. West End is a very friendly club, you will be made to feel very welcome and there will be plenty of support and advice available.

Other information

Why?

Running is a great way to keep fit/lose weight/keep happy. Running with other people helps you go further for longer. It’s easier to start than most people think and once you get started you’ll get a real sense of satisfaction. West End is a really friendly club – a great place to start.
